Luxembourg

delayed Installed capacity →
Luxembourg shares a bidding zone with Germany. The figures below are measured in its own control area and are genuinely its own — but they are not counted separately in the European tally, because that would count them twice: once here and once in the shared zone.

The price of electricity today

This country has no bidding zone of its own, so it has no day-ahead price of its own.

Wholesale prices for the interval covering this moment, bidding zone by bidding zone — countries with several zones appear once per zone, with its code in brackets. The average is arithmetic across zones, not weighted by demand: a small zone counts as much as a large one. The figures exclude network tariffs, excise duty and VAT.

How we estimated 158 g CO₂/kWh

This is an estimate, not a measurement. There is no official carbon-intensity measurement for this country, so we compute it from the production mix.

Σ(source generation × source factor) / Σ(generation), over positive values, with life-cycle factors.

The factors are life-cycle values — they include construction and fuel, not just combustion. That is why solar, wind and nuclear are not zero. Source: IPCC AR5 WG3, Anexa III, Tabelul A.III.2 (mediane), version 1.

Caution: 52.4% of production comes from sources with weak factors (biomass, waste, unattributed output). The figure is indicative and not suitable for cross-country comparison.

How the renewable share is computed

Σ(renewable sources, positive values only) / Σ(all sources, positive only).

Numerator: Onshore wind, Biomass, Run-of-river hydro, Hydro reservoir, Solar.

Denominator: 141 MW.

Pumped-storage hydro and waste are not counted as renewable — the first would double-count energy, the second is partly fossil and its biogenic fraction cannot honestly be separated.
