The windows do not overlap: four options starting a quarter of an hour apart would be the same recommendation written four times.


How it is computed

The appliance starts at the beginning of a published interval and runs without interruption. The cost is the sum of the prices of every interval covered, weighted by how much of it is used — the last interval may be used partly, and is then paid for partly.

Windows that would cross a gap in the quotes are rejected. An average price computed over hours we have no quote for would be an invention.

Constant consumption is assumed throughout. A real cycle has peaks — heating the water in a washing machine, for instance — and the figure is the closer the more even the consumption is.
