Physical cross-border flows

Electricity measured crossing every border in October 2026, valued at this zone's day-ahead price.

Physical exports 167,527 MWh estimated market value 35,019,135 €, at 209.04 €/MWh
Physical imports 244,713 MWh estimated market value 60,739,454 €, at 248.21 €/MWh
Estimated market value −25,720,318 € the month averaged 240.98 €/MWh
Border with Out, MWh at €/MWh In, MWh at €/MWh Difference €
North Macedonia 8,465 197.26 134,209 234.88 −29,853,297
Serbia 86,780 239.70 20,959 211.16 16,375,122
Montenegro 55,134 164.25 49,032 270.87 −4,225,576
Albania 17,148 203.68 40,513 284.09 −8,016,568

25,720,318 € for 77,186 MWh that stayed in the country works out at 333.23 € per megawatt-hour, in a month that averaged 240.98.

  • Energy that stayed, at the month's average price 18,600,388 72.3%
  • What came in arrived above that average 1,768,173 6.9%
  • What went out left below it 5,351,757 20.8%

The first line is energy the country needed and got. The other two — 7,119,931 € together — come not from how much moved but from when: cheap hours to sell in, expensive hours to buy in. That is the price of a timing mismatch, not a loss.

Official validation AWAITING OFFICIAL ANRE DATA

Physical cross-border flows and commercial electricity trades measure different phenomena. ANRE data is shown as an independent official benchmark and should not be interpreted as an exact reconciliation.

All months, every border

Not an invoice. Cross-border electricity is not sold country to country: the markets are coupled and the physical flow is the outcome of a shared auction. These figures value the measured flow at this zone's own day-ahead price, so both directions can be compared on the same scale.

Flows are measured, quarter-hour by quarter-hour; hourly borders are spread across the four quarters they cover, so every megawatt-hour meets the price that was actually in force. Energy entering the country is not the same as energy consumed here — some of it passes through.

Wholesale prices for the interval covering this moment, bidding zone by bidding zone — countries with several zones appear once per zone, with its code in brackets. The average is arithmetic across zones, not weighted by demand: a small zone counts as much as a large one. The figures exclude network tariffs, excise duty and VAT.

Who consumes: the base, the work rhythm, the day

An estimate from the shape of the consumption curve, not a measurement by customer category — that is not published in real time. Three parts: what never stops, what runs in shifts on working days, what switches on during the day.

    The day
    430MW
50.4% of the week's average · what exceeds the working-night floor, on average: offices, shops, homes awake

Over the last seven days consumption averaged 853 MW and ranged between 520 and 1,129 MW.

How it was measured: the median of the 02–05 hours over 7 Sunday mornings (396 MW) and over 26 working mornings, Tuesday to Friday (423 MW), across the last 8 weeks; the average over the last seven days. The parts are cut from one another in order and add up exactly to the average.

The parts are shapes of the curve, not customer categories: the base holds every household's fridge as well as a plant that never stops; the day holds single-shift factories too. “Industrial” and “household” would be words these data cannot defend.
