There are two cables between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (the 66 kV one from 2005 and the 132 kV one from 2022); REE publishes a single flow, the total of both, and that is what is shown.

Who supplies the electricity?

System operator and transmission owner

Red Eléctrica de España (REE) operates the electricity system, balances generation and demand, runs the transmission grid and the submarine cables, and publishes the official real-time data. [1]

Distributors

The local grid, meters, outages and connections are the responsibility of the area's distributor. The CNMC register lists two companies operating in the Canaries. There is no official figure for the territory each one covers. [1] [2]

Retailers (comercializadores)

Consumers choose their retailer, under the same rules as in mainland Spain. On the regulated market (PVPC) supply comes from the reference retailers; on the free market, from any authorised retailer. No company is the islands' sole supplier. [1]

Reference retailers with national scope (CNMC list, consulted on 2026-09-18) [1]

  • Energía XXI Comercializadora de Referencia, S.L.U. (Endesa)
  • Curenergía Comercializador de Último Recurso, S.A.U.
  • Comercializadora Regulada, Gas & Power, S.A.
  • Baser Comercializadora de Referencia, S.A.
  • Comercializador de Referencia Energético, S.L.U.

Generators

The plants are dispatched by REE. The list includes only what could be confirmed in official sources; unconfirmed fields are left empty.

Renewable capacity installed in the Canary system: 1,031 MW as of December 31, 2025, 30.0% of the generation fleet (REE). [REE]

The Canary Islands have no electricity market of their own: REE dispatches the plants, with no bidding. The figures are those of the Spanish day-ahead market (OMIE), in EUR/MWh — a wholesale price, not a bill. The price at which island demand buys its energy is derived from the daily average mainland price, shaped by the hourly profile of Canary demand (Royal Decree 738/2015, Annex I). BOE-A-2015-8646

The regulated PVPC price, paid by household consumers (in EUR/kWh), is published by e·sios for the Canary Islands too. We do not show it yet: access requires a personal token from REE.
